Student Comments
“Dr. Gjesfjeld has easily been my most impressive professor at UCLA. His attentiveness to student learning is unparalleled. It was evident to students that he was organized, prepared, and engaged before and during each lecture. For example, Dr. Gjesfjeld incorporated several "activities," at which time students would interact in groups and identify the bone structures we learned earlier in the week. This would require that Dr. Gjesfjeld bring extra materials and create supplementary worksheets- a manifestation of his dedication to student learning. I am incredibly grateful to have taken this course and I cannot give Dr. Gjesfjeld a bigger stamp of approval and appreciation. Any student would be lucky to have him.” –Anthro 118 (Environmental Archaeology) – Fall 2016
“I loved Erik's style of teaching and believe his organization of this course to have contributed to the knowledge I will carry on from his course. He is a great instructor and very approachable which I appreciated. He continuously challenged us and provided us with the tools we needed to excel. I recommend any course taught by him!” – SocGen 120 – Winter 2016
“This course was very engaging and well-organized. Erik was clear in his explanations of each topic and allowed for a lot of class discussion, which helped me to understand the material in-depth. I also appreciated the wide range of class activities, including debates and poster presentations, which were a lot of fun and allowed us to develop skills useful to careers in the sciences.” –SocGen 120 – Winter 2015
“Positive attitude, charismatic and passionate professor” –Archy 105 – Autumn 2013
“The integration of material between films, labs, the book & lecture. It was a good balance between hands on visual and auditory learning. The extra credit field trip & the archy material sorting lab really brought home the labor aspects of archy” –Archy 205 – Summer 2010
